2:35 pm Putting continues to plague McIlroy

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — Rory McIlroy’s right wrist is still sore, but the bigger problem remains his putting.
For a second day in a row McIlroy took 33 putts, shooting a 4-over 74 — his worst score of the week — to drop to 7 over for the tournament. Through three rounds he also has a half dozen three-putts.
“Another frustrating day; I got off to a terrible start,” said McIlroy, who double-bogeyed the first hole and added three more bogeys on the front nine before making the turn in 40. “I didn’t have my speed at all on the greens. I’ve struggled with it all week.”
As for the wrist, McIlroy said it feels better than it did on Thursday and that it only bothers him on iron shots. “That’s when it becomes a lot tougher,” he said.
Still, McIlroy plans to play in Switzerland in two weeks, adding that he might not hit balls again after this week until he arrives there.
Does he regret hitting the shot that caused the injury?
“Looking back it probably wasn’t the right thing to do,” McIlroy said. “If I’d been in the position again and not knowing what would happen though I ‘d probably do the same thing.”

If his putter was hot he’d be under par. 94 putts over 3 rounds is shocking.
I’ve gotta tell ya, I don’t see a superstar here. I see a young golfer with no better a chance at winning a tournament than anyone else. The only difference being that when this kid chokes, he does it in a memorable way.

Well, this KID was telling Woods what to do, all be it, Tiger IS washed UP and ready for the salt mines..but, for Rory WHO?? to tell a grat former Champ what to do….unthinkable. These eropean golfers SUCK! Ernie Els, Vijay, Olazabel, and WOW..Goosen was so bad he WITHDREW!!! Geoff Ogilvy sucked, as well…before they critisize the US players…better sink a few putts, mate.

I am glad that Rory could compete, but the root shot that caused it could have been prevented. The common sense was gone!
Robert Kelly obviously doesn’t know his geography. There is one ‘old’ European golfer among those mentioned. Maybe a lot of frustration on his part. He shouldn’t worry though. American players will eventually do better. Things can’t be much worse!
Good player – maybe a 1/2 wins a year type but great??? Not for me yet. He plays like Mickleson did when he just went for everything and his putting is frail and seem him choke a few times apart from Augusta notably on the euro tour.
To me he’s marginally better than Fowler. They play the same way and until McIlroy is able to manage his game, course, situation better he’s gonna be a player that looks good only to flatter. Possibly it will come with experience but too much gun slinger in him to make him a great IMO.
To Robert Kelly. I am surprised at your comments but totally unsurprised by your
knowledge of geography, spelling and grammar.
Please look again at the examples you provide and explain where in Europe ( yes it has a “u” ) Ernie Els, Vijay, Goosen and Ogilvy come from.
Your attitude is sad so you should take some advice from someone you admire and ask if your rant truly reflects your beliefs.

Apart from your abundant ignorance, already highlighted by other readers, being a TV golfer, you certainly must know that 5 of the last 6 majors have been won by NON-AMERICAN, which is a coincidence and it’s nice to see different players from 4 different continents being in contention. I guess it all makes the game much more interesting.
By the way, see you at the next Ryder Cup. I will be at the European Tour Production Compound

Rory is the reason why golf fans will watch golf. The great thing with Rory is that he learns fast and that is his best weapon. You will be talking about Rory for a long time. Get used to it.
One more thing:
Why should we make a difference between americans and non-americans?
Why should we put ourselves at the same lowest level of football players and fans?
Golf is supposed to be a gentleman game, the game of dignity and respect. The same a player shows to his competitor when he misses a putt on 18 to lose a tournament worth it 1M$. He still takes his hat off and shakes hands and thanks the marshals.
What if Tiger had a Zimbawe passport? 14 majors to Zimbawe, then what?
We talk about nationalities when we play President Cup, Ryder Cup, WGC team Match Play…
Other than that, it’s an individual game and you should cheer for the player, not for his native country?!

When it comes to Rory I think I’ll listen to what all the pro’s say, which is , he is the best talent on tour. Dont think I’ll listen to all of ye’re no knowledge points.
Stats dont lie,and more often than not he will lead GIR so when he gets a hot putter he wins. Future number one and will be for a long time……..unquestionable
Most of the golfes on the top tours seem to get on an like each other, at the moment Visiting golfers are winning the US based Majors. The next generation of great golfers will emerge from the far east . Just enjoy quality golf like Ricky Fowler at the ryder cup those putts he sank were massive in length and pressure, Rory at Quail creek ( jim furyk and many others pros waited to congratulate him on such low third and fourth rounds.
Tiger woods needs to play more this year regardless of pressure , if he plays every week there wont be this hype when he appears, his record in golf is totally amazing he is going through a rough patch not helped by his timing and reasons to change caddies.

Wow,you people crack me up.This kid is playing against the best golfers in the world and doing pretty good. What I would give to shoot 7 over in this tournament! Is he going to be one of the greats?Who knows,he has shown moments of greatness,only time wil l tell. Should he tell Tiger what to do? Someone should, the wheels are coming off for him and a little friendly advise wouldn’t hurt. Rory is doing good things off the course as well as on, give the kid a break and don’t ride him for taking a shot he thought he needed to take to win.
I just got my first hole-in-one today, on the Driver course. For the rest of that round, the ball cnhegas from white to gold, and each time you drive the ball, it sounds like a jet plane taking off. You don’t get any special points for a hole-in-on; 200 is still the maximim possible on any round.
