Make your picks: PGA Championship

Will Tiger win that 15th major? Can Keegan Bradley defend his title after stunning the field last week at Firestone South? Check out our weekly draft for Kiawah Island and see who Rob Bolton liked for under-the-radar picks.

Leave your picks in the spot below.

  • davidloring

Luke Donald, Steve Stricker, Matt Kucher

  • Jesse

Ernie of course. He is a great wind player and an amazing competitor in the majors

  • Ted McGowan

Jason Dufner, Rory McIlroy, Jim Furyk

  • Foxy

    Dustin Johnson, Colsearts and MacDowell

  • Frank

    Of course……TIGER WOODS

  • Al from Australia

    TOP (8) SELECTIONS.
    1) WOODS.
    2) OOSTHUIZEN.
    3) BRADLEY.
    4) ROSE.
    5) STRICKER.
    6) HARRINGTON.
    7) ELS.
    8) GARRIGUS.

    GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE.

  • Ooby

On the back of a 500/1 2nd at the US Open, Leishman at the Travellers, Ernie at THE Open and Bradley last week(toss up between him and Furyk), this week I’m going for Dustin Johnson. Thinking about Rose, Haas and Mahan too.

  • Mike

David Toms or Ernie Els. Both are seasoned vets. I like the consistency of Toms.

  • Cleveland

No one is giving Sneds a chance so I’ll go with him. If anyone can putt these crazy greens, it’s him… IF he can hit them.
Luke and Stricker should do well here too since they can drive the ball straight. I really don’t think a big hitter like Dustin, Tiger, or Bubba will have a top 10 here. It’s the guys that can get up and down that have a chance.

  • Aaron Schimbeck

    Tiger or Phil

  • G man

    Martin Laird,Jonathon Byrd,or KT Kim,

  • Andrea

    1) G-Mac

    2) Matt Kuchar

    3) Brenden Grace

    4) Phil

    5) Paul Lawrie

  • jim grant

    dustin johnson,jj henry,padrig harrington

  • No Pictures on the Scorecard

    BILL HAAS

  • JJ

I have a gut feeling that the winner will come from South Africa or Ireland. For no other reason than World Cup performances at Kiawah in the past. So my short list is

    Sabbatini
    Oosthuisen
    McDowell
    Harrington

Plus a tentative US pick of Scott Piercy who must have sky high confidence right now.

Good luck and best wishes from England, the home of the 2012 Olympics and the best British Olympic performance in history.

PS I was going to go for an Australian to do well in the PGA, however like their Olympic team I think they will fail miserably.

    Ha, bloody convicts!

I really have this feeling that Phil is going to make the top 10. He is due for a breakout!
    My yahoo! picks:

    A. Mickelson or Scott

    B. Woods, Toms, Watson, or Mahan

    C. Dufner or Senden

Again, I say Best of Luck to All and please take your time in deciding where the fault line will be when putting. (Don’t RUSH)

  • Liam Thompson

    Graeme Mcdowell
    Hunter Mahan
    Ricky Fowler
    Bill Haas
    David Toms

Are me 5 bets for this week.

  • Bacardi Jim

I had a miserable week in Akron, so I need to rebound this week.

Group A–Too much talent in this group this week. I’m going with Furyk and Adam Scott, but Luke, Kooch and Stricker are also good choices. This group may make or break Yahoo! players, as most choices in the other two groups are likely to be similar.

Group B–Justin Rose is an auto-pick, based both on his play last week and his second-place finish at Kiawah in the 2003 WGC World Cup. S.C. native Dustin Johnson and Bubba both have the length to handle Kiawah easily. My fourth pick is Ernie Els. Mahan, Westwood, Tiger, Rory, Rickie and Colsaerts are all possible contenders as well. Also, don’t rule out Jacobson, who also did well (T-6) in the 2003 World Cup. (I forgot to mention that Furyk & Justin Leonard finished T-5 in that tournament.)

Group C–I’m definitely taking Harrington and waffling between G-Mac and Duffman for the other spot. Oosthuizen looks like the only other possible pick in this group.

    Good luck to all!

  • Allen Nelson

    John Daly
    Ken Duke
    Bryce Molder

Got to go with my Arkansas Boys!!

  • D. Harris

Alphabetical order: one of these will win.

    1)K. Bradley
    2)J. Dufner
    3)D. Johnson
    4)R. McIlroy
    5)L. Oosthuizen
    6)S. Piercy
    7)J. Rose
    8)T. Woods

    4.Retief Goosen
    5.Tiger Woods

  • Bacardi Jim

    Group 1–Rose
    Group 2–Furyk
    Group 3–Harrington

    5.Watson

    Sleeper Pick: Kyle Stanley

  • goja57

After watching him a little bit last weekend in Reno, I am thinking John Daly might find his way into the mix. The winner at Kiawah will need to be long off the tee,a good putter, experienced, and able to handle the windy conditions. Check three of four for JD…if he handles the wind and some putts start dropping, he will be on the first page come Sunday.

  • Duane

    Stricker,G-Mac or Rory

  • Len

    Mr. Woods

  • AceHole

    John Daly for the win.

  • JHarvey

    Tiger Woods

  • Pat

Rickie Fowler is going to win a major sooner or later…wouldn’t be surprised if he rebounded from that miserable second round last week and put in a big push this week while people are sleeping on him

  • teeithigh

Stallings….. he is hot right now.

  • Jeremy

I think John Daly has a chance to follow up last week’s top five at the RTO with a great chance at victory this week. I agree with goja57′s analysis completely! I also think Phil may make some noise!

So the boycot of South Carolina over the Confederate flag on the Capital of the state being the reason Tiger didnt play The Heritage? Guess with a Major being played its not that important to boycot it?

That being said its a Pete Dye course. Ill take any of the last 4 winners at The Heritage

  • Howard

    Dufner

  • sandbelt

nothing like seeing how the course actually plays on thursday. we always see these stories about how even par might win and then, lo and behold, a dozen guys break par. i’ll be likely having another wager after first round.

small, very small, profit on rose last week.

rose to win, no top 5 and no top 10. all or nothing for him. last chance for me.

simpson will carry a small win wager.

harrington each-way could be value here, with glover a rough chance at big odds if it’s windy.

    not interested in investing on:

woods, poor putting and poor odds.
mcilroy, might drive it into trouble here.
mahan, it’s a major, too tough., poor chipper.
stricker, it’s a major not john deere.
kuchar, average with driver, average with irons.
donald, not going as well as last year, average record in majors.
    westwood, putts worse than els.
    els, he’s not mark o’meara.

using my selection results in previous tournaments as a guide, you can expect the winner to come from my non-investing group.

  • TEM

Stricker finally wins his first major and cries like a baby!!! GO WISCONSIN!!!

  • drago

I heard a BBC golf commentator saying that Rory is ‘used’ to winning majors. How many majors has Rory won?

  • Scott Sorrell

Do you guys pick Tiger every week? I mean come on. Not sure how you all call yopurselves experts and pick same guy that is not winning every week.

  • sean

Let’s go Sneds earn that ryder cup spot you deserve. 3 top 15′s in us opens and this week is going to be more like a us open. He is a grinder and scrambler and great at par 3 scoring which will be huge this week

    #2 Kuchar
    #3 Rose
    #4 D. Johnson and
    #5 Furyk
    Good luck everyone!

  • Tyson Fields

My three players who I think will take it all in this order:

    1. John Daly- Good Top 5 finish last week and keeps building momentum I thin he will peak this week with the win.

    2. Justin Leonard- He also has picked up his game in the past month and has some momentum.

    3. Phil Mickelson- He is just a bit off his game but has the experience just like John Daly so I give him a good shot as well.

But I am praying and pulling for the miracle comeback player of the year John Daly all the way!!! GO JD!!!

I believe that Scott is still mentally strong and striking it well. Senden is in form as well.
    Go Aussie’s
    My Sleeper is Daly.

  • David G.

I agree with Scott you all call yourselfs experts and pick Tigger all the time. Step out of the box and remember there are over 150 choices. What happened at Firestone?

  • Andrea

I placed a bet last year that Ricky Fowler will not win a major within the next ten years (2021)

Was given amazing odds and will be very happy collecting.

By the way…..someone tell him to shave off that ridiculous half grown tash!!

  • VIC DRAPER

Just want to see a non Long putter win….
Don,t want the weather and DRAW to determine outcome…Please no sunday meltdowns Scott,
Furyk,Levin,Allenby, and others I would settle for a Pebble Beach like performance from Tiger.
But this is not your typical PGA season so anything is possible!!!!!In the meantime G-Mac
    is the way to go….

  • Dustin's Drive

Last Major Loop of the year. This thing is ocean wide open. I could run off a good 25 players that are primed to take Kiawah Island down. Let’s trim her down though shall we. I can’t believe I’m leaving off Stricker, Donald, Woods, Simpson, Els, Zach, Mahan, Fowler, McIlroy, Harrington, and Oosthuizen. IT’S MAD!!! IT’S CRAZY!!!

  • exfolios

Phil the thrill has proven he can turn his game on a dime, and will do so again to win his second PGA. Put me in for that.

  • rossmorguy

I don’t know how Simpson could be sharp coming off his layoff. After backing Louis O. several times this year and watching him closely, I can’t back him in this. The only way he wins is if he gets a five shot lead on Thursday. Sneds is not ready for the big time–too wild off the tee. Players capable of winning and who seem to be coming into form (with juicy odds): Ogilvy, B. Haas, Stanley, Choi, Yang, Goosen. Bradley is a rare alpha male pro golfer (like Tiger) and may just blow this field away (most recent winners just take a few months off, if you know what I mean). Aside from the above, I’m also putting a few bucks on: Daly, O’Hair, Palmer, Garrigus (all at juicy odds, of course). Good luck to all!

  • texasm&m

Played with Jim Furyk in a Pro-Am his rookie year. He is the nicest of 11 different pros played with. He has the game and he has the ability to come back from his bad three shots to loose. He may not lead all the time, but he will come thru and win.

  • dan the man

this is a long bombers course – bubba + choker kyle stanley. have to throw in dufner as well – he is on fire

Tiger is going to win this major and then take down the playoffs along with player of the year, money leader and the world number one ranking. Its just what he does and i wouldn’t bet against him.

  • steve

    Big John Daly

  • Todd smith

Although he won’t win, I am rooting for Ryan Moore!

  • Midnight Man

I’m still for Jim Furyk — all the way. This great golfer has proven he has the “mechanics” for the toughest tournaments. Most of his peers acknowledge the fact that Jim is one of the most dedicated professionals in the “bunch”, and is a credit to the game of golf. Even when he’s had those heartbreaking losses on the final holes, he’s always willing to consent to interviews … instead of walking away in a rage, reflecting the fact that he’ also a good guy.

  • Jimmy

    @ David

No golfer can ever be considered the best athlete. Golf is just not an athletically demanding sport. What other sport has as many middle aged and/or overweight guys doing well?

This year alone we had Steve Stricker, Mark Wilson, Phil Mickelson, John Huh, Ben Curtis, Carl Pettersson, Ted Potter Jr., Scott Stallings, Ernie Els, and J.J. Henry win. In any other sport these guys would not have won jack.

Vijay will play like crap on the weekend like he has done every other tournament this year.

The best athletes over 40 are guys like Bernard Hopkins, Randy Couture, George Foreman, etc.

  • Andrew

Tiger will put up a great challenge this week, its overdue!

  • charles albert

I have a feeling that Phil will bounce back this week. My picks:

    Phil Mickelson
    Jim Furyk
    Tiger

I’m going with the oldies. Also I’m amazed of the performance of Duffner. GL to all, Furyk fan here.

POULTS – good around the greens, good in the wind, if he can get his putts dropping. 7th at THE MASTERS, 9th at THE OPEN

  • david king

I find it extremely boring how all the talking heads on TV have to do their picks to win each major. They all pick Tiger, then a few top 20 guys, then they get creative and pick a few wild cards to come out of nowhere. Well, they’re never right, Tiger hasn’t won a major in 4 or so years, their safe picks always fade, and their wild cards are rediculous. Do us all a favor and save it. Just tell us about who’s playing, tell us all about the course, and keep your crystal balls in their sack.

  • RJM

sandbelt: well done on Rose, he did well to place after quite an awful start to round 1 if I recall?

No luck for me, Van Pelt torments me again with a top 10 and over par Sunday for the second week in a row. With the number of guys I back each week, I need a winner again soon or else I’ll be back to even for this season.

I’m in a real muddle this week and maybe need some help from the good tippers on here? Got too many guys on my list, and hate leaving some off in case they go on to win. Here’s a brief summary.

Woods 10/1 win only – Getting tired of backing him now, but still think these odds are good.

Rose 35/1 – Will def win a major soon and he’s coming back into top form.

Oosthuizen 35/1 – Great form all year, great in majors.

McDowell 40/1 – Plays consistently great, especially in majors.

Harrington 45/1 – Very high price for a guy who can outperform in majors.

Bo Van Pelt 60/1 – Backed him a lot recently and keeps getting top 10s so would feel silly leaving him off at double odds.

    Schwartzel 60/1 – Just a feeling after a Firestone 63 on Sunday.

Garrigus 100/1 – I think this course will suit great ball strikers who cannot putt. So Robert Garrigus, come on up.

Kyle Stanley 100/1 – The USPGA used to be the tournament where middle-of-the-road americans emerged to win their first (only?) major. Well, look at last year, that still is the case. I like Stanley to fit that bill.

Singh 150/1 – Good form recently, awful putting, but I’ll discount that around here. Knows a thing or two about majors.

So what on earth do I do now? Need to get three or four off this list and feel good about it? Help?

  • RJM

I also like Westwood at 7/2 to miss the cut, but that’s a separate issue.

  • Kenneth

    Kuchaer
    Els
    Dufner
    or Fowler

  • sandbelt

    RJM……

van pelt is likely to torment you all his/your life! if he’s in contention after 3 rounds, he’s likely to shoot over par and finish 8th. if he’s running 30th after 3 rounds, he’s likely to shoot 65 and finish 8th.

schwartzel has been indifferent this year, stanley also since his early season form. i cannot entertain singh over 4 rounds.

my advice, for what it’s worth, is to stay with rose, harrington, oosty, g-mac and garrigus. back woods, if you must, to break even. he’s not value at 10/1, it should be 20/1 the field.

    all the best.

  • G Fearon

Lol i’m coming off the back of 3 wins in a row.. Keegan Bradley, Scott Piercy & the Big Easy.. Well actually I also got lucky selecting Zach Johnson (John Deere) Webb Simpson (US Open) Matt Kuchar (Players)

Got a feeling for Zach Johnson at US PGA…

    Top 12 picks,

    Zach Johnson
    Louis Oosthiuzen
    Hunter Mahan
    Jason Dufner
    Bubba Watson
    Jim Furyk
    Steve Striker
    Bill Haas
    Dustin Johnson
    Bo Van Pelt
    Graeme McDowell

Or maybe even Keegan Bradley will defend his crown after that gutsy performance at Firestone..

If none of the above win it, lol Tiger win probably win..

  • StevenG

    1. McDowell
    2. Stricker
    3. oosthuizen
    4. Dufner
One person i havent seen anyone say anything about is Jason Day? He came 2nd in two majors last year and a lways has a great final round

    Day

  • RJM

sandbelt: thanks for the feedback. I’m giving some of the guys you suggested a closer look and seeing which types of tournaments they have performed well in recently.

I’ll drop Stanley, he has been making lots of recent cuts and finished well in the British Open, but he has three good rounds and a bad Sunday, and Sunday had the conditions we might see this week.

I’ll drop Schwatzel, I wasn’t super keen on him anyway and wouldn’t have considered him if he didn’t shoot a 63, which is a silly reason to back someone.

But I’ll defend Singh. Two top 10s in his last two appearances, including a British Open where he shot par on Sunday.

Maybe you are right and Woods isn’t value, but his price keeps creeping up and up, I can find 11/1 now. Just shows that the 80% of people picking him on this thread obviously aren’t gamblers.

  • heath green

Bernd weisberger, branden grace, dufner, furyk, bradley, michael thompson, john daly!!

  • george

phil will win by four shots he will bounce back this week. cmon phil we love u

  • G Fearon

Well Van Pelt’s good as he’s been playing he’s still only ever won once on the PGA Tour hasn’t he?? Lol that was like 3 years ago???

Schwartzel’s been injured but if memory serves me correcet he hasnt done anything since his Masters win…

Singh lol last couple of times i’ve seen him he’s had a blistering round or two, but by Sunday he vanished off first page of the leaderboard?? The guy hasn’t done anything for 4 years?? Might be time for him to head to the senior tour.. Lol but RJM you can defend him…

Woods is capable but he’s been up n down in form… Yet he still has more PGA wins than anyone else so far this season…

  • Conor Convery

Has to be Harrington, if the wind picks up, he’s the man!!

  • Ken Banks

Only one winner this week: Dustin Johnson. And, for outsiders to chase him home, Martin Laird and John Daly.

  • G Fearon

Lool how did Harrington get on at that Reno Taho Open?? Lol i know JJ Henry won… Dear me Padraig couldnt even win the Irish Open lol & no invite to the World Golf Championship at Firestone…

    I’d sooner back G Mac than Harrington…

Martin Laird?? John Daly?? lol what that bloke with colourful trousers?? Is this a joke?? With all the good players on the PGA tour this has to be a joke…

  • stmarysnationalschool

    Harrington’s the Man!

  • G Fearon

Lol how’d you work out a guy who hasn’t won anything for 3 years is the man?? Lol lol lol!!

  • sandbelt

harrington at reno is not the same as harrington at kiawah island.

a fourth major is not out of the question, this course might suit very well.

at 45/1, i’m happy to risk a buck or two.

  • Jeff

    SERGIO TIME BABY!!!! CMON SERGE

  • JJ

Tony – At least I got one bite!

    G Fearon – lol.

  • BOB DeMARCO

    ANYONE BUT TIGER…A B T

  • G Fearon

So let me ask again, how did Harrington get on at the Bristish Open, did he finish in the top 10?? 20?? 30 perhaps?? I would’ve thought that course would’ve suited him?? How about the Scottish Open?? Oh yeah Jeev Milkha Singh won that.. Again I would’ve thought that course would suited him.. What about the Irish Open when he was 2 shots behind going into day 4 with the entire Irish crowd behind him?? Lol oh yeah some unknown Jamie Donaldson win that… Again i would’ve thought that course would suit him…

Harrington’s now 50-1, I put a couple quid but i dont really think he’ll win & I certainly wouldnt say he’s the man at all…

There’re too many players in much better form.. Lol & Sergio Garcia isn’t one of them…

  • larry r

the top 3 woods harrington and ryan palmer espeically if the wind blows, ryan is from west texas where the wind blows every day.

  • Ryan

    My 5 against the field:

    J Dufner
    S Stricker
    P Harrington
    R Garrigus
    L Oosthuizen

  • Hank "D"

Stricker finally gets a major. And if not him, it’s Donald.

  • Jim

    RORY BOOK IT!

  • RJM

G Fearon: at first I thought you were totally anti-Padraig, but (unless I misread your post) you say you’ve put a couple of quid on him too?

I agree with you when you say he isn’t the man, or the favourite, and he has squandered some good opportunities recently. But the man just has a knack of appearing on leaderboards in majors like this, and I never remember seeing a price this big for Paddy, except during his low seasons. I wouldn’t back him at 30s, but would at 50s. I’m guessing you agree?

You and sandbelt both seem right about Bo VP. He has countless T8 and T9 finishes this season. And I think his price should be higher than it is considering the field, but I dunno, the fact I can get top 6 this week means I’m finding it hard to let go.

Also starting to talk myself into Furyk at 50-1. I know he has wasted two huge chances to win recently, but does that hide the fact he is in amazing form? and mature enough to not let the losses affect him if in position again? I dunno.

Why do I do this to myself lol.

  • RJM

ps: might very well be time for Singh to hit the seniors, but I’m defending him as good value to top6 at 150-1, not necessarily to win.

pps: I should really stop researching, starting to consider Freddie Jacobson at 140-1, good form this season including US Open, form at this course, huge price.

  • EB

Phil or Adam!! they are overdue.

  • Alex

    Rory McIlroy
    Dustin Johnson
    Bubba Watson
    Charl Schwartzel
    Bill Haas
    Nick Watney
    K.T. Kim (wildcard)

Thats where my money will be going!

As a Brit, I think anyone who picks Donald is a moron, he has never contended in a major and he certainly isn’t long enough to contend at Kiawah!

  • EddyL

    ANYONE but 8-Ball Woods

  • RJM

Alex: totally agree, I say this almost every week it seems but both Donald and Westwood are off limits when it comes to majors and even the 2nd tier of US Tour events such as Firestone etc. The bookies insist on keeping them as 2nd and 3rd favourites which is ridiculous.

Poulter or Rose will probably both win a major before either Westy or Luke do.

  • brema

    T40, T25, T4, “Its a process…” Its TIGER!

  • Harry Mann Jr.

Jason Dufner, with Scott Piercy my sleeper pick.

  • debbie long

Stricker, Bubba, Ernie, Phil, Dustin, Keegan…in that order!

  • G Fearon

Nah i’m not anti-Padraig at all, i backed him in the Irish Open where i was convinced he would win, unknown Jamie Donaldson win.. Padraig’s one of the top 3 Irish players, although he’s won more majors but that was some time ago… I just think his form’s been very erratic, good round here/there but no real consistency… in golf anyone on any given occasion can win but at same time its about form & consistency…

G Mac’s playing the best out of the 3, Rory lol well since he hooked up with Wozniaki his form’s got to pot, although he played really well on Sunday at Firestone, so you never know..

Furyk & Stricker are musts as are a few of the in form American’s like Bradley, Dufner & Zach Johnson…

I like Bo but he doesn’t seem to close out tournaments hence why he’s only ever won once on the PGA tour.

I got Jacobsen at 90-1, done it last week, but i reckon an American will win..

  • Kenneth

    Kuchar
    Els
    Dufner or
    Fowler

  • mike colvert

Rory Mcllroy, adam scott, charles shwartzel thats were my moneys going.

  • Jon

I am going to pick the player with the lowest total score on sunday to win!

  • John Sample

David Toms-Always plays PGA well and wants Ryder Cup team one more time. Winning here is his only way to the team. Besides being a great guy and competitor. John

  • RJM

G Fearon: Well, if you backed Jacobson at 90-1 I think it would be rude of me not to back him at 140-1. He seems at wildly different odds across different companies.

Dufner and DJ are both priced too short for me to consider, and Zach I like but not feeling it for this tournament.

Bo and Furyk are the same price with the bookmakers I use, and I’m starting to think drop Bo, and do Furyk instead.

    Swings and roundabouts.

  • Man From Mars

Thorbjorn Olesen !! Pity Yahoo Fantasy do not have him as an option. Quiros, Stricker and DJ. Aussie pick is Ogilvy – suits his game.

  • G Fearon

Oh gosh I forgot about the Kuch, he won the Players for me… I got him at 40s..

Got Els at 66… Fowler my gosh since his win earlier this year i dont know what’s happened to him, did anyone see him at Firestone?? He must’ve been about +10 or something, awful… but he’s a good talent so you never know..

As for Adam Scott, after what he done to me at the Open I dont trust him at all, i had him at 45-1 & he flopped!! He was awful at Firestone too.. Lol good thing I also backed Ernie at Lytham…

I rate Toms, he’s one of my experienced guys along with Furyk & Stricker..

  • RJM

I hear you about Scott, I had him at the Open, except I didn’t have Els! I had Furyk at the US Open and Kuchar at the Masters too… so I’m not really looking forward to the closing holes of this Major.

  • aussie scott

dont laugh guys ,but i am backing rob allenby top aussie as well as top 5 & 10. he playing like a bustard a- hole, but this course smells like royal melbourne and huntingdale, and allers record at those courses is unquestioned.

\what do u think sandbelt as yr a local

  • Tony from downunder

G/Day RJM… Have been reading your comments and noted your selection`s, have you settled on a short final list as I am going to hit the sack shortly.

  • Hacho

    ANGEL CABRERA
    SERGIO GARCÍA
    TIGER WOODS
    ERNIE ELS
    JOHN DALY

  • G Fearon

Lol of course it’d be rude not to back the Jac at 140-1.. Thing is i do my golf bets too early that’s why i got the crap odds, i should wait until the week of the event!!

Dufner & Dustin are at least 40-1..

Zach is now 55-1 but I got him at 40-1, garbage!!

    I already got Bo & Furyk…

Thorbjorn I backed the other week in that tournament after the British Open, he was about 4 shots clear & leading all the way until he choked on the last day!! I’ll leave him for those little European tournaments…

  • RJM

Tony: I’ll definitely be placing my bets soon because Paddy’s price has already dropped a little and I’m fed up of going round in circles.

It’s probably gonna look like this (still too long for some I know):

    Tiger (win only)
    Rose
    Oosthuizen
    McDowell
    Furyk
    Jacobson (small ew bet)
    Singh (small ew bet)
    Garrigus (top 10 bet)

Think I’ll definitely drop Bo, and the more I think about it, the more I’m tempted to drop Padraig when the other players in his odds bracket (Furyk, McDowell etc) are far more consistent recently.

  • RJM

GF: I can’t see Dufner and DJ anywhere near 40-1. Oddschecker (always handy) shows their best is both below 30s

    http://www.oddschecker.com/golf/uspga-championship/winner/all

  • Pepe

Just had £1 e/way on Blake adams, can’t wait to collet my winnins. £300 I can here you all laughing, don’t laugh watch him go!

  • RJM

Pepe: I’m not laughing. This is the major that Rich Beem and Shaun Micheel won back-to-back. Anything could happen!

  • G Fearon

Nah you have to do the bets in Coral… Dufner & Johnson started off at 28, then went to 33s now its 40, maybe Johson is still 33 but the Duff is defintely 40+.. Kuchar, Hunter, Bubba are all at least 40-50s in Coral…

Lol lol Blake Adams??? Lol has he ever won any tournament anywhere in the World let alone a PGA tournament?? I know anyone can win in golf lol but i dont think it’ll be him Pepe..

I’d sooner back someone like John Senden or Anders Hansen than Blakey..

  • aussie scott

    man from mars

leave it a couple of hours yahoo leave it till the last 12- 15 hours to complete all the selections

  • AndyF

    Tiger
    McDowell
    Dufner
    Simpson

  • Tony from downunder

RJM…Thank`s,noted that you dropped Charl Schwartzel think he`s got a bit of a chance at odds re. win or T10 chance.

  • G Fearon

Oh forgot about Allenby, think he was 150s or soemthing, i put a quid on him..

  • Hayden Blalock

    I’m picking

Jim Furyk, Tiger Woods, Keegan Bradley, and Grame Mcdowell

  • RJM

Tony: yea, I had to drop some people, and I never had any strong conviction about him.

GF: Just out of interest, what is the full list of players you have some sort of bet running on this week? and also out of interest, how are you doing for the season? up a lot, down a bit, roughly even?

  • Big Al

    Ernie Els
    Jason Duffner
    Charl Schwartzel
    Bill Haas
    Carl Petterson
    Kyle Stanley
    Scott Piercy
    Louis Oosthuizen
    Branden Grace
    George Coetzee
    John Daly
    Jose Maria Olazabal
    Thomas Bjorn

  • AndyF

Changed my mind. Bets now placed all e/w

    Tiger
    Donald
    Dufner
    Gmac

  • G Fearon

I’ve got quite a few on my list RJM… I’ve got my Americans & Euro guys lol & South Africans & Aussies…

How am I doing for the season?? Well I’ve only been watching golf since beggining of last year, lol I didnt even know the rules before, but i’ve watching, learning & now fully understand.. Only this year I thought to myself I can win off this… When I first checked golf odds I couldnt believe it!!! Jason Dufner, Matt Kuchar, Zach Johson, Webb Simpson, Bubba Watson, Ernie Els, Scott Piercy, Keegan Bradley have all won for me so I would say i’m up a lot & I’ve won more on golf than I’ve ever won on football bets..

  • drago

The GOAT will win this one. He has to.

  • Jacques Strap LeBlanc

Tim Clark will be in contention on Sunday.

  • RJM

Sounds like you’ve got the hang of it quite quickly. I used to mess around with all sorts of bets like group betting, top european etc, and enjoyed winning little and often, but found it wasn’t as profitable as simply backing a few people ew outright and keeping up a steady stream of winners.

The reason I was interested in your record this year is that you seem to follow a similar strategy to me. Backing lots of people each week as opposed to just one or two. I usually do 3-4 in a normal week and 6-7 for a Major. I’ve had six winners this season, but unfortunately none over 28-1 and whilst I am up, my main worry is the amount I stake each week means I quickly lose any gains if I go a month without a winner.

  • the perfesser

    Carl Pettersen

Tiger without a doubt. He is due for another win. This is the major he has been waiting for and he will win to make it the big 15. Good luck Tiger and best wishes. GO TIGER, GO TIGER.

  • robmerritt

    1. Bo Van Pelt – he’s playing great and has as many or more top 10′s than anyone this year. Time for a big win!
    2. Phil Mickelson – why not?
    3. Jim Furyk – wouldn’t that be a great rebound!

  • G Fearon

Well coz it was all new to me what I done since the start of this year was write down names of golfers who’s game I rate & also who’s been winning, which breeds confidence…

I think Webb Simpson at 80-1 was my biggest win, had tenner on him… Bubba & the Kooch were 66 or something…

I do about 5-8 in the normal PGA tournaments, 15 or so in the Majors, nothing’s guaranteed but i’ve done pretty well.. It also makes it a little more interesting when watching to see your selections at the top of the leaderboard battling it out heading into Sunday… I had Furyk, Bradley & Oosthuizen lol so I didnt really mind who won Bridgestone Invitational…

I’m trying to find a few more unknown’s for the European Tours… Thorbjorn, Weisberger etc…

Ooops almost forgot, Marcel Siem won the French Open for me… I saw him a couple of weeks before that tournament & he wasn’t bad so stuck a quid on him, 100-1..

Think my record’s something like 8/9 wins in 11 bets… never done anything like that on football…

  • Niall

i think the winner will come from

    Dufner
    Stricker
    Kuchar
    Harrington
    Fowler
    Johnson
    Els
    possibly OOsthuizen

Els i got at 66-1? eh hello bookies this is the british open winner from a few weeks ago, but yet westwood is seen as a favourite.

I pick Tiger. He still got that fire in his eyes and he has been consistent having won 3 tournaments so far. I have faith in him.

  • don

I wish for phil, but my feeling is Rory.

  • Building7

    FOWLER owns it! <=================

  • G Fearon

I dont think I’ll ever back that Sergio Garcia again… I dont like his attitude either, he doesnt instill any confidence to back him…

Rory’s a top top talent just off form…

Lol Bo’s got more top 10s than any other?? Lol how many wins are in there, 1?? 2?? None?? He’s a good price & might be worth a couple of quid though…

Mickleson’s been all over the place for a while now, I’d be amazed if he won…

I dont rate Westwood at all, I’d sooner back Donald or Rose…

Carl Petterson’s not bad but cant really see him winning..

Colsaerts is good but not very consistent, looking at his odds probably worth a couple quid.

    Nobody’s mentioned Molinari or Cabrera-Bello??

  • JJ

I’m saying a foreignor takes it…someone who plays week in and week out in the wind or who has plenty of wind experience. Ernie has to be up there with Donald, Oosty and of course Tiger who can play in any weather.

    1. Jason Dufner
    2. Jason Dufner
    3. Jason Dufner
    4. Zach Johnson
    5. Matt Kuchar
    6. Adam Scott
    7. Louis Oos

  • Mike Zotti

No love for Adam Scott on this whole thread! He’s suited well for this course. He’s a solid ball striker, long enough off the tee and he did well at the British. His weakness is typically his putter and these greens are running slow. If the conditions are as calm as they’re predicting he could fair quite well.

  • G Fearon

Lol where is Jason Day these days??? he’s always a nearly man & only ever won once one the PGA… Lol that was back in 2010 lol what happened in 2011?? I backed him once but he was so far down the leaderboard that it was a bloody joke… Yeah he has been second couple times lol but thats why he’s a nearly man… Adam Scott’s a much better player than Day..

Lol course Woods is top American but i’m not really one for favourites…

Donald?? World Number 1 & never won a major?? He’s a good player but I’ve yet to see him do anything of note in the really big ones..

Cabrera’s a good talent but the way he collapsed at Firestone was worrying…

Lool Olesen cant even win a mickey mouse European tournament with a 4 shot lead on the final day, no chance!!

Noren lol this isn’t the European Tour its US PGA Championship…

  • a broken man

Although the course is long my pick for the win, other than the obscure transient who will actually win, is Zach Johnson.

  • Mike

I hope Eldrick misses the cut. i’d like someone surprizing like Sergio to win.

  • G Fearon

Sean O’Hair?? Lol Rookie of the year??? He hasn’t done anything in 2012 & is badly off form… He must be about 250-1,,,

DA Points?? Lol what’s he about 500-1?? This guy has only ever won once on PGA & I dont ever see his name on any leaderboards on Sundays…

Tom Daly?? Colourful trousers guy again?? That can’t be a serious 1,2,3…

I dont mind a surprise but i dont want it to be Sergio Garcia that’s for sure.. How can a man who says to the press that he cant ever win a major instill any confidence?? I dont get that.. I’d rather back someone that has confidence in themself..

  • Doug Mowat

I think its Tiger all the way and my dark horse is Dufner.

  • Jeba

Jeev to fight it out against the US experience

  • Matt

    John Daly, or Duffner

  • G Fearon

Tiger’s 9-1, 10s at best, but i dont really like bookies favourites, dont really appeal to me at all.. But its Tiger we’re talking about so it’s possible he’ll win…

    I’d rather Dufner won though…

  • Donnie Owens

Being from Arkansas , John Daly is my pick . If you look at the last 5 he has played in , he is walking up the ladder . What a great comeback story . Maybe reaching a bit , but I have seen lightining strike before . Get em JD

  • G Fearon

Last time I see JD he was walking up the ladder in the Reno Taho Open lol but the World Golf Championships was taking place at the same time so I can’t really take that seriously because then I’ll start thinking JJ Henry’s gonna win the US PGA…

But ok Donnie, it all kicks off tomorrow so I’ll look out for your man…. good luck… Lol then again with the trousers he wears it won’t be difficult to spot him…

  • DW

Looks wide open . Course is long and supposed to be quite wet which must favour the longer hitters … I say that on every long course and am usually proved wrong but this course is really long :

Cabrera – poor form but huge price, he had poor form before he won the Masters
Quiros – form is not great but hits it forever
Woodland – seems to be improving, reasonable Open

    Others

Charles Howell – quite long, low ball flight should suit conditions, would be a popular winner
Perez – reasonably long, I think he has more talent than his 1 win record and would like to prove himself on the big stage
Siem – long, played here in GWC
Palmer – not the worst, plays well in the wind
    Rollins – ditto

Garcia and Allenby but that is most likely good money after bad

  • BC

  • Marcus

Would love to pick Webb Simpson, would be a huge shot in arm for PGA to get a young American with two Majors in one season, not named Woods or Mickelson. Webb Simpson validates his “out of nowhere” US Open win.

Gamb1ing is il1egal in 99% of the USA and yet a few of you talk about nothing else here. Literally, ALL you talk about is an il1egal activity. On the other hand, I can’t talk about “bluegra$s” on a golf website without it being “moderated” out of existence.

Anything can happen this week, of course. But you really can’t like what Furyk has done recently when he’s had a chance to win (in fact, more than a chance, he’s had two tournaments in the bag and blown them both!), and that will weigh on him this week, I think. Likewise, Scott. Likewise Louis O., who seems incapable of winning unless he has a big easy lead–probably won’t happen at Kiawah. Like Louis O., Van Pelt has all the talent in the world but has never got the job done in a situation like this (in fact, he seems to shy away from the opportunity), so I have to throw him out. I mean, look at it this way. BVP doesn’t even want to be within 5 strokes of the lead, so what’s he going to do when he’s within one or two? Likewise, Jacobson. D. Johnson’s short game is much improved, but I wouldn’t trust it this week. VJS is a plain awful putter, can’t be backed this week. Likewise, Els. Simpson, too much time off coming into this. Sneds too wild, especially under pressure. Fowler is off form. Donald has the game but he’s never gotten the job done in a major–not backable for me. Harrington is an awful putter under pressure. Bubba’s short game is still not good enough for this week, nowhere’s near good enough. McIroy’s a maybe on talent but he’s lacking guts–will need an easy lead (very much like Louis O.). Tiger–who knows?, but you have to bet against him if you want to make money. Dufner should contend–he’s just incredibly good tee to green. I always look for juicy odds on a player who seems to be coming into form and who hasn’t proved himself gutless. All of these fit at around 100-1: Ogilvy, Garrigus, Stanley, Goosen, Haas, Choi, Yang. You might think that Garrigus has proved himself gutless, but I’m not so sure (and I have lost money on him). I think he’s just one tip on the putting green away from shooting lights out (he’s that impressive tee to green, and he knocks down more flags than anyone else, period!). Good luck to all!

  • Tony from downunder

G/Day Jim I am surprised you don`t have a dabble here and there because you seemed to have a great knowledge of our great game and of the players and would to do quite well on the punt I would think.

i have a$$umed that predictions of a good showing from robert allenby are made in jest.

should that not be the case then i think that i can persuade you that there is no reason whatsoever to give any further thought to robert allenby being a contender this week.

robert had a 2 stroke lead in mexico this year going up the last hole. he made double bogey and lost to a rookie in a playoff. this event was the alternate event to the matchplay at dove mountain.

robert has not won on the pga tour for 11 years.

robert has an average stroke score this year of almost 72.

robert must be close to the worst putter on any professional tour, in the 3-8 foot range.

robert played at akron last week. he qualified because greg norman used a presidents cup captains pick on him last year, where he lost all his matches. at akron he finished 69th of 75 who finished, 25 shots from the winner.

on a brighter note, robert is a good bloke who gives a lot of his time to good community work. it is likely that he gave his $42,250 that he collected last week to a worthwhile charity.

    Steve Stricker….

I will be rooting for Tiger but I am ready for Steve to show his talents….he is ready for another win….

  • rossmorguy

Sorry, in my rant I forgot to mention Keegan. I got 60-1 on him last week (I had him at 80-1 in last year’s PGA). It will be interesting to see what he does with that big recent win under his belt. Most pros these days (with the current hugely inflated purse structure, thanks to Tiger, of course) disappear for a while after winning a million bucks. My sneaking suspicion is that Keegan is a different kind of animal. If he wins this week, look out world!

  • nick

i think ogilvy is a great chance here. conditions will suite and playing ok without being brilliant….

  • rossmorguy

Someone mentioned that he picks Stricker to win majors but it never happens. How true. The year after Stricker partnered with Woods so successfully in the Ryder, I bet Stricker in every major, figuring that a bit of Tiger would’ve rubbed off on him. The odds on Stricker that year were painfully low, between 20 and 30-1, so there must’ve been a lot of us geniuses thinking the same way. Stricker never showed, not even close. I think he’s one of those great golfers who will never win a major, and you can see why by watching him week to week. He sprays the ball off the tee at the most inopportune times (like Jason Day FWIW).

  • rossmorguy

What I like about Ogilvy is his short game (which is second to none), and his guts. However, he tends to pout if his game isn’t 100%. If it is spot on (and I think I’ve seen signs of it coming around this year), he will be there Sunday; if it’s not, he’ll fold the tent as early as Thursday’s back side. Some fans would say that his quitting when his game isn’t right is gutless, and I would agree in most cases. However, Ogilvy has proved that when he contends, he gets the job done, and I call that guts!

  • nick

rossmorguy… well said.. couldnt agree more. this blokes fairway to green play is magic, and when his putter is hot he is unstoppable. I agree with you re the quitting thing. He can get upset easy, plus he always is carrying some sort of injury!

  • rossmorguy

nick, the more I think about his game, the more I like him this week. He hits the ball long off the tee, really long, and his iron shots are incredibly high, so he should be able to hold those wicked greens. And you’ve got to believe that he cut his teeth on similar courses on the windy coasts of Australia. But like I said, we’ll know Thursday if he’s right for this tournament. If he’s around par by the end of Thursday, it could be interesting. If he’s at par and, say, five shots back, I think he’s still in it. If he’s five over but only five back, I think he’s done.

  • Bacardi Jim

Tony from Downaussie: It’s not legal to gamble here. So I don’t. So I play the Yahoo! and Golf Channel games instead and settle for bragging rights rather than Euro$. That being said, thanks for the compliment. I do love golf and like to think I know what I’m talking about. (I cracked the GC Top 50 for the season two weeks ago, though I have since dropped out after a horrible week in Akron. I’m still ahead of all the GC “experts.”)

  • Bacardi Jim

Oh–overall pick to win: Justin Rose.

  • Starkey Mariann

I pick Adam Scott to do what McElroy did when he blew the Master’s — come back and win a major.

  • rossmorguy

Bacardi Jim, FWIW I also think Rose is solid–strong game in all areas, good form. The only knock against him is he doesn’t have a major, but he has won big tournaments before. Just not a major. Watching him this week will be interesting. If he is contending, we’ll be able to see how he handles the major factor. I think that’s what defines these guys. Not too long ago Rose was putting with his eyes closed, but he’s got them open now and seems to be doing just fine. Good luck!

  • nick

    rossmorguy.
being playing to par alot of late. brithish open and again last week.
if the winds up it may or maynot benefit him. had a shocker at the us open, greens beat him again there.
be is at juicy odds also…81/1

nick, I’ve already got my standard bet on him (at 80-1) and was ready to double it but my site was down. An omen? Good or bad? LOL

MY FIRST CHOICE TO WIN IS: TIGER WOODS

    FOLLOWED BY:
    BUBBA WATSON
    STEVE “STRIX”

    GO GET’UM, CHAMP!!!!!

  • Dave

Well I’ve had enough of the Tiger Woods and why so many treat him as the God of Golf when there are so many players that are gifted and some in many ways have played better than Tiger Woods, yes he was a Champion and a great manager of his game, not a better player but a great manager and has lost this with personal issue’s. So guy’s , give credit to other great players as Tiger isn’t the only great player but no longer the great player of the past and the events he won this year were not of the same peers and players that he contends in the biggest events.

  • Dave

In any case , my picks this week are Mcilroy, Bubba, and Dustin Johnson.Outsider Alavro. I believe the winner will be the player that is a good wind player. When all said and done, there’s skill and loads of luck also.

  • sandbelt

ogilvy is just going fair at the moment.

he’s a rough hope if the wind is down, but likely to miss the cut if it blows.

i don’t see an aussie contending, unless jason day fires up. we’re off the pace.

and if it blows at kiawah as much as it is blowing on the mornington peninsula today, then 77 would be a good score. no kidding.

i wouldn’t mind a windy pga, we missed the wind at the open championship.

anybody got a reliable forecast for kiawah?

rossmorguy…haha since chatting with you my gut feeling has built up. threw another $20 on him. fingers crossed… you seem to know your golf. where are you from??

  • Michael Dalas

    Rawwrrrrr, Tiger !

  • RJM

DB: Yes, Dustin Johnson’s odds seem big if you put it your way, but I don’t put $50 on all my golfers. I only bet a couple of pounds each way per golfer. Sometimes 50 pence each way for outsiders like 200-1 etc.

When I say DJ’s odds are too short, I mean relative to his chance of winning. I’ve backed Tiger this week at 10 and that is more than half the odds, so I don’t mind short odds, but I don’t think 22-1 on DJ offers value. Furyk and McDowell are around 50-1 yet I feel all three have an equal chance of winning this tournament.

    At 22-1 I wouldn’t even benefit much from a top 5.

  • rossmorguy

nick, it was a pleasure chatting with you too. I’m in St. Paul Minnesota and I don’t know much about golf but have been watching tournaments on TV forever. For many years I handicapped horse racing and got into golf handicapping about five years ago, thanks to the internet. There are many similarities, I think. Regarding Ogilvy, there are some concerns about the flight of his ball and the wind conditions. I understand that. My main concern is his current form and how he feels about it, which of course is beyond what we can possibly know. But we’ll have some idea early in the tournament. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for your publiction. Another factor is that to be a photographer requires not only trouble in capturing award-winning photographs and also hardships in getting the best dslr camera suited to your needs and most especially struggles in maintaining the quality of your camera. This is very correct and clear for those photographers that are into capturing this nature’s engaging scenes – the mountains, the actual forests, the wild and the seas. Going to these adventurous places surely requires a camera that can live up to the wild’s harsh setting.

I have been surfing online greater than three hours these days, yet I by no means found any interesting article like yours. It’s beautiful value sufficient for me. In my view, if all webmasters and bloggers made excellent content material as you did, the internet shall be much more helpful than ever before.

By the time my babies are 10 weeks old I get back to my wouokrt schedule. For me, I have always found the best way to fit it in is to do it before they wake up (or if tiny, as soon as they have been nursed, but before the rest of the house is awake). If there is another adult in the house then I run outside. If there is not, then the treadmill comes out. This is my time and I don’t mind a few minutes of lost sleep to get it.
