McIlroy continues to pad lead
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. — The final round of the 94th PGA Championship is starting to take on a Congressional feel.
Rory McIlroy’s lead is now six strokes after he birdied the 12th hole and Ian Poulter was unable to get up and down from behind the green at No. 15.
The largest margin of victory in PGA history is seven shots in 1980 when Jack Nicklaus beat Andy Bean at Oak Hill.
McIlroy, who won the 2011 U.S. Open by eight strokes at Congressional, coaxed a 15-footer into the right side of the cup for his fourth birdie of the day. The 23-year-old is now 11 under with six holes remaining.
Carl Pettersson, who is playing with McIlroy, is tied for second with Poulter at 5 under. Defending champion Keegan Bradley is among a group of five at 4 under along with Peter Hanson, Adam Scott, Bo Van Pelt and Justin Rose, the only one who is in the clubhouse.

Too bad that all the wind was lost, turning this major into another event like Disney. Looks like every time the weather turns a major into a typical low-level event, “Rors” is there to pick up the pieces. Too bad this PGA turned into a Member/Guest…it had so much potential!
No wind and soft greens should play into 90% of the golfers hands. They are ideal conditions after all and these are professional golfers.
So in fact, Rory being at the top just illustrates how he is one of the best.
A pleasure watching McIlroy. It’ll be interesting to see him play in a couple of years when he gets good.
LOL Gailllllll!!!!!!!!!!
You just can’t help yourself can you?
If Rory wins a Major it’s because it played easy. You never can give the kid any credit can you?
What part of “IT’S THE EXACT SAME CONDITIONS FOR EVERY OTHER PLAYER AS IT IS FOR RORY MCILROY DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND?
Rory has just obliterated the field yet again in a United States Major.
@ Gail, 95% of the tournaments played on the PGA Tour literally have ZERO WIND. So going by your logic, the majority of your Hero and Idle Tiger Woods’ wins don’t matter then because there is zero wind most weeks in America?
23 years of age, 2 Major Championships, says it all. Now go and cry yourself to sleep GAIL you sorry being your Pharaoh Eldrick failed to win yet again.
Can some one who is good with golf history help me out here? I have a question.
How many other players in HISTORY have 2 Major Championships to their name at the age of 23?
@ Jim, so winning 2 Majors at the age of 23 doesn’t qualify you as being “good”?
You are kidding me right?
I guess Sean Smith has come out of the weeds. Didn’t hear from him while Gags was “trunk slammin’” on Fridays a month ago, but now he shows up. My message here is to Sir Shaun…hopefully, you’re excited with the win by your friend. Well done, and congrats!!
HAHAHAHA…this is the first time in Rory’s career that he has beaten Keegan Bradley in a major!!! I still think Bradley will have MORE WINS THAN MCILROY when all is said and done!!!
THE KEEGAN BRADLEY WORLD DOMINATION TOUR CONTINUES!!!
KEE…GAN! KEE…GAN! KEE…GAN! KEE…GAN!
KEE…GAN! KEE…GAN! KEE…GAN! KEE…GAN!
KEE…GAN! KEE…GAN! KEE…GAN! KEE…GAN!
KEE…GAN! KEE…GAN! KEE…GAN! KEE…GAN!
This is one of the times where “RORS” didn’t actually gag a tournament…he could have had so much potential but already gagged FOUR TIMES this year already!!! First at the Match Play…then at the Masters…then at Quail Hollow…and then at the St. Jude…but this time I admit that Rory played lights-out and I shall give him credit where credit is due…well done Rory…
t.. to the moderators .. as a European, am I not allowed to leave a comment on here ? .. I’m not trying to inflame anyone, just suggesting that the reason perhaps the Europeans are doing well is to their ability to readily adapt to links-style courses, that’s all. .. just making a viable observation …
Rory grounded his club in the trap at 16. Why wasn’t he penalized?
@ Gail, your man Eldrick can continue to win the Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and his own tournament til the cows come home. Events he has dominated down the years.
I am sure he will also continue to CHOKE weekends at a Major….
Tiger Woods led after 36 holes in the US Open and finished 21st, 9 over par weekend.
Tiger Woods -4 through 36 holes this week and well in contention, 2 over par at the weekend.
His scoring average for Sunday this season is over 73 when at his peak it was around 70.
Like Butch Harmon just said, “Rory is doing to these fields what Tiger did 10 years ago” closing in style.
Gail and Brads and all other haters, go cry yourself to sleep Rory is here to stay!
Rory is so good at golf that he was at the Olympics last week watching Caroline play tennis while Tiger being the mechanical player he is probably spent weeks at Kiawah Island.
Thank you and good night!
Enjoy watching Rory close out these last 2 holes!
Peace Out!
23 years of age and 2 Majors already and still doesnt get the respect he deserves by these envious Americans.
@ sean smith – i know you are Brads so stop being childish.
Rory Mcilroy has now won 2 times this season and lost in a play-off to Rickie Fowler.
He struggled for about a month but no one can play great all the time.
Where did Fowler finish here? Did he even enter this tournament?
@ Joey Doeks – If you have been following this event you will know that there are no bunkers this week. They are just calling them “Sandy Areas” so players are all allowed to ground their clubs in them and take practice swings.
Okay I am out Congratulations Rory you are the real deal and NEW WORLD #1!!!
GOOD BYE TIGGERCHOKE!!!
Where is great American hope and reigning Us Open Champion Webb “bible basher” Simpson finish? Was he here I didnt see him?
you are allowed to ground your club, have you not paid attention all week?
.. also in reply to sean above, or anyone else on here for that matter.. Keegan is talented but can tend to be a trifle twitchy for me at times.. just look at either Rory or Luke and their controlled ‘state-of-the-art’ ‘traditional-style’ set up and golf-swing. They are definitely doing something right there ..
How many other players in HISTORY have 2 Major Championships to their name at the age of 23?
There are a few I can think of. Young Tom Morris, John McDermott, Gene Sarazen, Seve Ballesteros and of course Jack, Tiger and Rory.
I’m not sure how much of a major the US Open was in 1911 or the British Open was in 1870 but they count now. Bobby Jones should be included because his US Amateur championships were considered more valuable in 1925 than Gene Sarazens PGA championships. Never the less there’s your answer.
No, I haven’t paid attention all week. I have a life.
It’s actually a nice and useful piece of info. I’m happy that you shared this useful information with us. Please stay us up to date like this. Thank you for sharing.
I’m now not sure the place you’re getting your information, but great topic. I needs to spend some time studying more or working out more. Thank you for wonderful info I was searching for this information for my mission.
You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I to find this matter to be really something which I think I would never understand. It kind of feels too complicated and very vast for me. I am having a look ahead on your next submit, I will try to get the dangle of it!
